Springfield Road by Salena Godden, 2014

Thanking my lucky stars that I found this book in the charity shop last week. I was quite disappointed to finish it in all honesty. As someone who grew up in the 2000s, I found myself relating to Salena's experiences as a kid in the 70s, whilst also having so much insight into racism, the importance of food + ancestry in different cultures, and priviledges I had that other families did not.

It's a book that had me longing for the simplicity of childhood, whilst feeling grateful for growing into the person I am today. And feeling honoured to be able to learn about Salena's life and her incredible mother, her father, siblings, friends + elders. It's really lovely but insightful at the same time and I urge anyone to read it.
