Brach’s Rocks (1993)

An advertisement for ‘Brachs Rocks’, taken from the inside of a Marvel comic book, 1993. Brach’s are an American candy company founded in 1904 by German emigrant Emil J. Brach, known for their Candy Corn and ‘Conversation Hearts’, similar to the Love Hearts we enjoy in England. Brach’s started off making caramels, and in 1913 were the first confectioner to establish a food safety laboratory testing the purity of ingredients and product samples.

Brach’s Rocks seem to only have been manufactured during 1993, a round candy with a hard shell and chewy centre, not dissimilar to the Chewits Juicy Bites you can buy today which have a surprisingly similar mascot. I wish I could travel back in time to try these because they look so fun and delicious. The artwork for this advertisement is so crisp and inviting too - I’m definitely sold.
